This was really a game I thought WKU was going to win. Something strange is going on with this team. Some of the topper "insiders" will know but I sure don't have any ideas. I really dislike Harpers sub patterns and dislike the offense to defense constant sub changes in the last five minutes of the game. Keeps the team discombobulated. Maybe it impresses the higher ups at WKU but it didn't impress Rice much tonight.

Losing late game leads seems to be a theme for this team so far on the season. There didn't seem to be a sense of urgency down the stretch to attack the basket on offense and be aggressive, they went cold, and it cost them again. You bring up a great point in the inordinate amount of substitutions, it's hard to find rhythm and balance with that strategy especially late in games when WKU needs it most.

WKU slips up at Rice 83-73

Not much heat on Harper. One thing about the football teams success is that somehow, as at other schools, it takes the heat off of the other program.

I would guess he has a 70% of getting another year. Zero chance of being fired. He seems to be our coach Stoops, does everything great but win games. Schmoozing with the right crowd gets you another year sometimes even if the wins aren't there.

There is talent on this team. Do these coaches even look at the film and grade the players? I expect a late season charge led by Hunter, Edmond and JJ. Might be enough to get Harper another year to see what happens.

Totally agree. Football team takes a lot of any potential talk out for now. The talent is there. Seems like there is good talent on the bench that will be eligible next season. I looked at the stats of Rostov and Lawson from yesterday's game...can you say non existent!!we will need to play a small line up and run and gun. Full court press...haven't seen hardly any this year that I can remember. They've got to press for turnovers and then "quickly " capitalize.

My season tickets are paid for. I obviously paid for them. But, I am having a hard time going to the games this year. I'm sure part of it is George and TJ being gone but it has been a sub par season at best. I hope things improve!!

You bring up a good point about George and TJ - that kind of leadership those guys brought isn't there this year. There are veterans there like Snipes and Rostov, but not alpha leaders like Fant and Price. I can see some of the young guys like McNeal, Hunter, and Johnson stepping into the leadership role though. From an offensive production standpoint, I think it would benefit WKU if Justin Johnson got a touch or two on nearly every possession he's in the game.

Don't forget Trency Jackson from last year's teams. Also, it's hard to be a leader at crunch time for our older guys because they have never been in those situations themselves. At crunch time Nigel and Alecks have always been on the bench. Honestly, Aaron hasn't been on a winning team in college either.
Fred is too quiet probably. I think Justin is our best chance, but I'm sure he feels weird about telling the older guys what to do plus they may not accept the younger guys' leadership.
