It's that time again, the dead period in the world of college football recruiting will end at midnight and coaches will hit the road again to scout, evaluate, and attempt to get key targets on campus.
One key target Western Kentucky coaches are going to see is Northwest Mississippi C.C. cornerback Treston Decoud, the 6-foot-3, 206-pound athlete received an offer from the Hilltoppers back in December and has been in close contact with cornerbacks coach Ricky Brumfield. I talked with Decoud tonight and he said a visit to WKU could be in the works, but he is still trying to sort things out. He has offers from Lafayette, Utah State, Houston, East Carolina, Toledo, North Texas,Oregon State, and Southern Miss. He plans to trim his list to a top 5 on Friday, so we'll see if WKU makes the cut.
Tristan Decoud Highlights
Another JUCO option for the Hilltoppers that will be on campus this weekend will be Highland (Ks.) C.C. defensive tackle Darnell Thompson. The three-star prospect has had an offer from the Hilltoppers for a while and aside from WKU, Thompson also has an official visit scheduled for Purdue on January 23rd as well with a "yet to be determined" school likely to get a final visit on the weekend of the 30th. For now though, it looks like a battle between the Tops and the Boilers.
Darnell Thompson Highlights
This weekend is expected to be relatively small in terms of official visitors that will be on campus - a few key targets (like Thompson) and a few commits as well. We're hoping to get a more thorough visitor list toward the end of the week.
One commitment that will be visiting this weekend will be Glasgow (Ky.) running back Marquez Trigg, I spoke with him for a little bit tonight and he told me he was looking forward to hanging out with the other recruits. He said he's also formed a great bond with other commitments in Bryant Pirtle, Cullen Reynolds, Heath Wiggins, Lucky Jackson, and Devon Quincy.
I asked for his thoughts on how WKU ended their season with a bowl win, and he said the following:
"I think they had a great season and couldn't have finished any better. I'm looking forward to helping bring more bowls to Bowling Green."
