Spent the day in Spartanburg, SC for the Adidas Gauntlet Finale on Thursday where Western Kentucky head coach Rick Stansbury spent the entire day taking in the action.

The head coach started off watching Twenty Two Visions, featuring in-state SG target Trevon Faulkner out of Mercer Co. (Ky.) and forward Mickey Pearson out of John Hardin (Ky.)

For now, it looks like a two-team race between Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee for Faulkner who told me that right now, those two will get official visits after the July live period is over. Faulkner said Wichita State and Butler are other schools that have been expressing interest in him.

Faulkner scored 13 points and 6 boards in the first game and added 11 and 4 in their second game.

Pearson is still awaiting an offer from Western Kentucky after performing well at their team camp earlier this summer. He told me he thinks an offer is close and says he hears the most from Stansbury and WKU than any of the other schools recruiting him right now. Texas State, Ball State, Troy, DePaul, Belmont, Lipscomb, FGCU, and Old Dominion.

Pearson added 9 points in their first contest and 11 and 5 in their second.

Stansbury then stuck around Court 5 to check out the Rivals.com #2 player in the country for 2019, Charles Bassey.

I caught up with Bassey after his game and asked him about WKU. He told me how impressed he was with the campus during a visit last year and that he has a good relationship with Stansbury. I'll have more on that in the next few days.

Bassey finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds.

From there, the WKU head coach took in a relatively new target in 4-star shooting guard Luguentz Dort of Brookwood Elite and then checked in on Louisville Magic who boasts more in-state talents like Steven Fitzgerald, Oumar Kieta, and a familiar face in former Taylor County (Ky.) standout David Sloan.

Stansbury then took in a little Zion Williamson versus Christian Brown, who both have WKU offers but are considered the longest of shots before capping his night off by watching Indy Elite, who features such talent as Robert Phinisee and Covington Catholic (Ky.) products C.J. Fredrick (offers from Iowa, Miami (Oh.), Ball State, Northern Kentucky, Winthrop, New Orleans) and Jake Walter (offers from Miami (Oh.), Indiana State, Bowling Green, Kent State, Bradley, Toledo, Ball State).
