Against Bowling Green, Brandon Doughty threw for 6 TDs and no interceptions. To be honest, it has been a long time since I have seen a quarterback throw with such precision and pinpoint accuracy as he did Friday night. I realize that Brandon is a fifth year senior with a lot of experience, but I doubt that even the most ardent Topper fan expected to see him play this well. Now that Petrino is gone and Jeff Brohm is the head coach, it's apparent that Doughty feels much more relaxed and comfortable behind center this year than last year and his performance against the Falcons is proof of that.

Brandon Doughty plans to cut the INTs

No doubt, virtually flawless. I've been searching for stories and video in the national media. There's nothing! This kid, with his battle through adversity, injury and incredible pressure last year comes out in his first game against the MAC champions and throttles them! He wasn't just throwing to his primary receivers either. Watch his head and eyes. The defensive backs and linebackers from BG had no idea where he was going with the ball. He made plays with his feet, decision making and accuracy. Simply the best QB performance in the country.

As bad as BG looked against Western, I'm still convinced the Falcons will be a good football team this season. Bowling Green plays VMI this week so Dino Babers has another game before the Falcons play Indiana. If BG still doesn't have its up-tempo, no huddle offense ready by then, the Falcons will most likely lose again. Given Doughty's flawless in-the-zone performance against the Falcons, I don't believe BG could have done anything much differently to stop the Topper's aerial assault. Brandon had the BG defense back on its heels all night. Perhaps if the Falcons still had All-American defensive tackle Chris Jones, Bowling Green might have put enough pressure on Doughty to force some throws but even with All-MAC preseason first team players Bryan Thomas (DE), DJ Lynch (LB) and Gabe Martin (LB), the Falcons couldn't get to Doughty. I realize that none of these players are as good as Jones, who was the MAC defensive player of the year in 2012, but they are excellent football players nevertheless. It will be interesting to see how well BG plays against Indiana in two weeks.

On second thought, BG could have tackled better and covered better but it still wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game.

I watched my replay today and it was obvious to me that they wore down in the second half. They began to get physically whipped and I thought they might have been affected by the heat some. We handled it well, no question.

I was amazed by Brandon's growth in understanding of pressure, how to use the pocket, angles, when to scramble and actually looked great throwing on the run. Probably the best overall offensive game I've ever seen from a WKU team.
