BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - WKU Football's redshirt senior quarterback Brandon Doughty continues to collect national recognition for his standout performances this season as Athlon Sports and College Sports Madness tabbed him the Conference USA Player of the Week on Sunday following his performance at Navy yesterday.
Athlon Sports named Doughty it's lone player of the week from C-USA while College Sports Madness selected Doughty as its Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week after his third 300-yard outing of 2014.
Doughty completed 38-of-54 passes for 387 yards and a pair of touchdowns while adding a rushing touchdown in WKU's 36-27 win at Navy. He became the first quarterback in school history to eclipse 300 yards passing in back-to-back games and now owns three of Conference USA's seven 300-yard passing performances in 2014.
Doughty led WKU to touchdown drives of 88 and 91 yards in the second half, capping those drives with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Jared Dangerfield and sneaking a score in from one-yard out in leading the Hilltoppers to a comeback victory. He distributed his 38 completions to eight different receivers, four of which tallied six receptions or more.
Athlon Sports and College Sports Madness have now named Doughty its Conference USA Player of the Week twice this season. The honors add to a long list of accolades for Doughty this season, as he's also picked up C-USA Offensive Player of the Week honors twice and was named a national performer of the week by five different outlets following his Week 1 outing against Bowling Green.
Through four weeks, Doughty ranks second nationally with 1,846 passing yards, third with 155 completions and fourth with 14 touchdown passes. He leads Conference USA in all three categories and is the only quarterback in the nation with over 400 yards passing and no interceptions on third down this season. Doughty is tied for the national lead with five touchdown passes on third down, connecting on 33-of-52 passes for 445 yards with 13 completions of 15 yards or longer on third down.
Doughty and the Hilltoppers will prepare for its inaugural Conference USA home game this week when UAB visits Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium on Oct. 4.
