Former Louisville quarterback Tyler Ferguson, who at one point previously planned on transferring to Western Kentucky, will join the Hilltoppers next semester, multiple sources confirmed to the Daily News on Wednesday.

Ferguson - a 6-foot-4, 216-pound junior - was granted his release from U of L in August without ever appearing in a game for the Cardinals.

He's been enrolled at WKU all semester and will not have to sit out next season. Ferguson declined to comment further when contacted by the Daily News on Wednesday night.

The well-traveled QB from Bakersfield, Calif., sat out the 2014 season at Louisville after transferring from Penn State, where he appeared in five games in 2013. Before that, he played his freshman season at the College of the Sequoias, a junior college in California.

Ferguson left Louisville amid a deep quarterback battle for the Cardinals that also included Kyle Bolin, Lamar Jackson, Will Gardner and Reggie Bonnafon. Gardner also announced his intention to transfer Tuesday.

Ferguson went 10 of 15 passing for 155 yards and a touchdown in five games for Penn State as a sophomore. He completed 7 of 11 attempts against Ohio State for 125 yards and a TD.

After that, he originally intended to play for WKU coach Bobby Petrino in Bowling Green, but then followed Petrino to Louisville when the coach left the Tops after the 2013 campaign.

Ferguson broke school season records at the College of the Sequoias with 2,614 passing yards and 199 completions as a freshman. He threw 22 touchdowns in 10 games and was ranked as the nation's No. 3 junior college quarterback byESPN.com.

He threw 1,275 yards and 10 touchdowns in an injury-shortened senior season at Ridgeview (Calif.) High School.

There will be plenty of QB competition at WKU after the departure of sixth-year senior quarterback Brandon Doughty, an NFL prospect who's shattered every passing record in school history.
