A lot of talk happening today about LSU point man Anthony Hickey not returning for his senior season and is transferring from the Tigers.
According to Matthew Harris of The Advocate in Baton Rouge, Anthony Hickey Sr. confirmed to him that LSU has not renewed his son's scholarship.
That's interesting.
Hickey averaged 8.4 points and 3.7 assists per game last season while leading the SEC in assist-to-turnover ratio. A slight dip when considering he averaged 11.4 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.9 steals per game during his sophomore campaign.
Regardless, he has proven to be one of the best floor generals in a major conference and is a clutch performer during big games, just ask the mega-power program that's also located in the Bluegrass State.
That now leads to the "Hickey to WKU" talk (which is a hell of a college slogan). Hilltopper fans are currently salivating at the thought of the former Mr. Basketball donning the red, white, and gray to finish out his illustrious college career.
A few things to consider:
1.) WKU currently has no scholarships available (I've heard these things have a way of working out).
2.) If Hickey does end up transferring to WKU - will he have to set out a year? Or, has he already graduated and can he play right away?
3.) WKU already has their point guard going forward in CHD and what looks to be a very viable backup in incoming freshman Avery Patterson - would the staff really compromise that foundation to get Hickey for one season?
Highly unlikely.
We're talking sports though, and in the never ending realm of possibilities, anything is possible.
