Junior center Jamarion Sharp out of Hopkinsville, KY. was named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year watchlist on Thursday afternoon, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced.
Sharp is one of five players in the running for the prestigious award outside of Power Five programs.
Since becoming one of Western Kentucky's starters 15 games ago, Sharp has been a weapon for the Hilltoppers, averaging 9.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.9 blocks per game while shooting 63 of 82 (76.8%) from the field. Sharp also has more blocks by himself this season (83) than 292 Division I program have as a team, which is 83% of all D-I teams.
