WKU defensive end Juwuan Jones has been added to the 2022 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, which was announced Thursday morning.
The award is named after Danny Wuerffel, a former Florida quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner. The trophy is presented to the winner every February in Fort Walton Beach, FL.
The Wuerffel Trophy honors college football players who serve others, celebrate their positive impact on society and inspire greater service in the world. Jones meets the criteria as he makes it his routine to serve his community. He has specifically helped serve children who are receiving special education. Jones has received two college degrees from Western Kentucky. The two-time college graduate has a bachelor's degree in sports management and a master's degree in special education teaching.
On the field in the 2021 stint, Jones started in all 14 contests and was crucial to the team's C-USA East Division title game victory over Marshall. Over the course of last season, Jones recorded a total of 45 tackles, including 6.5 for loss and 3.5 sacks. Jones had his best game against Army, when he had nine tackles and a sack.
