Madison Central (MS) 2023 defensive end Braxton Barney picked up an offer from Western Kentucky on Monday, August 1.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound recruit out of Madison, MS. announced he had collected an offer from the Hilltoppers over social media on Monday afternoon.

Barney spoke with InsideHilltopperSports.com about how it felt to receive an offer from Western Kentucky and revealed what he knew about the Hilltoppers and their program.

"It feels great," Barney said. "I do know that they’re a great football program and I plan on going on a visit soon to learn more."

Barney said that Western Kentucky has been involved in his recruitment process for a few months now and he has connected with WKU director of scouting Zach Kramme the most.

"They’ve been a part of my recruitment journey for a few months," Barney said. "I’ve talk to Coach Kramme the most and I love how enthusiastic and welcoming they are, along with being a great football program."

Barney said that he is very interested in visiting Western Kentucky, but hasn't decided on an exact date yet. He said that he will likely visit this month.

Barney said that playing for Madison Central has greatly contributed to his development and growth as a player, and has also taught him how to contribute to a championship team and be a championship player.

"Playing for Madison Central has taught me a championship team isn’t just players who are good at the sport, it’s players who come together as a family to fight adversity," Barney said. "They’ve also taught me to be a “wardaddy”, someone who dives head first into battle no matter what the circumstances are."
