Made the quick trip up to Louisville today, where Western Kentucky was checking in on multiple in-state prospects and shooting guard target Trevon Faulkner.
Head coach Rick Stansbury was in attendance on Friday night for the highly anticipated matchup between Twenty Two Vision, featuring Faulkner and Mickey Pearson, and the Louisville Magic, featuring Andrew Taylor and Steven Fitzgerald.
On Saturday, assistant coach Ben Hansbrough was in attendance checking in on the above mentioned in-state prospects and a few others.
Hansbrough checked in on the Mid Ohio Pumas, which features impressive 2020 big man Zach Loveday. The 6-foot-10 prospect is extremely athletic and has great footwork in the low post, very polished big man that can play inside and out.
Hansbrough checked out the first half of Louisville Magic's game against the Michigan Mustangs before popping over and checking out the second half of the EG10 All-Stars game. Two players really stood out on EG10's squad - Shamar Dillard, a 6-foot-6 wing with a high motor and a knack for being tough in the post and gobbling up numerous rebounds. 6-foot-1 shooting guard Myja White is a bouncy athlete that displayed a smooth overall game and a deadly stroke from 3-point range.
Twenty Two Vision's contest against the Cincy Lakers was the focal point to round out the portion of the day I was in attendance, which feature shooting guard target Trevon Faulkner and John Hardin (Ky.) wing Mickey Pearson, a prospect WKU remains highly interested in.
Faulkner is about as complete of a basketball player you could ask for in a shooting guard. He's tough, gritty, has a nice stroke from 3, can drive the lane and create, and is a lockdown defender on defense.
Since I caught up with Faulkner and Pearson in South Carolina, my main priority today was to get an update from Steven Fitzgerald and Andrew Taylor - both of whom WKU is showing a lot of interest in.
On Taylor - he says he's top three schools right now are Furman, Belmont, and Davidson. He did say an offer from WKU would be nice because of it's tradition and it's in-state. He's been communicating with both Stansbury and Hansbrough for the past month or two he noted.
On Fitzgerald - like Pearson, Fitzgerald competed at WKU's team camp this summer and the interest materialized from there. He noted that Stansbury likes his game and jump shooting abilities he brings to the table. He said if WKU did extend an offer, they would be among his top group of schools. Middle Tennessee, Samford, Eastern Kentucky are some of the schools he mentioned he's hearing from on a consistent basis.
