The phrase I keep going back to after tonight's game is a win is a win. Once you get to conference play, every game seems a little bit tougher and it gets even more challenging when you have a target on your back. WKU is going to get every team's best shot every night. WKU pulled out the ugly victory tonight 65-59. Here's a few of my thoughts from the game....

1. 10-26 from the free throw line. To be able to win a game after that mess says something. The Tops have been up and down all year at the line, but tonight was brutal to watch. I think they feed off each other. If one person misses it just goes down the line. To state the obvious, WKU will have to do better if they want to make a run in the post season and I'm confident they will.

2. Brandon Price to the rescue. WKU started off this game as bad as I've seen them in months. Nothing could go right. As I've heard my grandma say for years, "We can't even buy a basket." Brandon Price came in in the first half and gave WKU some quality minutes. He comes in and naturally leads the court from the PG position, which WKU has been lacking in since OMV left. Not to knock on CHD, but CHD is naturally more of a 2 guard and he's done a lot for WKU at the PG spot. I trust BP more than most. The guy knows basketball and it shows every time he steps on the floor.

3. Ben Lawson continues to improve. He ended with 5 blocks and altered several other shots. He said post game he loves seeing the fear in opponent's eyes when they drive to the basket and he's there. WKU has been lacking a shot blocking presence since Jeremy Evans left. The future is bright for Big Ben. The next 2 years are going to be fun with him in a WKU uniform.

4. I mentioned CHD earlier. He was struggling most the game. He couldn't hit a shot and made some really bad decisions. At the end, he came through with a big 3. I feel like he does that a lot to me. I get so frustrated with him throughout the game and at the end he comes in clutch. CHD gets some flack sometimes, but he's still a underclassman. I forget that as well and I think he will continue to get smarter with his decisions. Next year, he will be able to move over to the 2 some I believe and that'll help him out.

5. TJ and George are still the rocks of this team. TJ with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. George finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Both solid outings from the senior duo. Not much to say about them, but I'm glad WKU has them.

6. Not a big crowd tonight. I was kind of disappointed, but at the end when the Tops needed them the most the crowd came through. It was loud in Diddle towards the end and I can only imagine how loud it would be if it was full. Just gotta keep winning!

That's all for tonight. Hope the Tops can play a full 40 minutes against Rice on Saturday. Like I said, games are different come conference play. LA Tech just got beat by 20 at UAB. Anything can happen and Rice will come in here Saturday ready to play.
