WKU offensive lineman Rusty Staats has earned some preseason recognition as he was named to the Rimington Trophy watch list on Friday, July 22. The Rimington Trophy is awarded to college football's best center.
Staats was crucial for the Hilltoppers in 2021, assisting the offensive line in achieving a C-USA east division title and a trip to the Boca Raton Bowl. Staats was tasked with shielding former quarterback Bailey Zappe last season and helped his team hold opponents to only 17 sacks last season, which was the 12th best in college football and second-best in the conference.
