Western Kentucky will partake in their second scrimmage of fall practice here in a couple of hours at Houchens-Smith Stadium. A lot of story lines to look at as the season opener against Bowling Green on August 29th draws closer, here are a few things to watch for today:

Sloppy Joe's on offense
After last Saturday's scrimmage, HC Jeff Brohm mentioned that the offense needed to tighten up some sloppy play, particularly with the second and third team units. We saw Nelson Fishback throw a couple of ill-advised short throws that Forrest Coleman promptly picked off and there were also a few fumble issues with the running backs and wide receivers as well. We'll see if the Tops can tighten that up.

Who's #2
JUCO signee Troy Jones started off under-center and got a lot of reps with the second team last Saturday along with Nelson Fishback. With that said, the race for the backup quarterback job seems to be neck-and-neck heading into today's scrimmage. It'll be interesting to see if Fishback can bounce back from last week's less than stellar performance and if Jones can continue to improve and lead the offense to some TD drives.

Wales or Warr
Another interesting battle is developing for the backup running back role between Ace Wales and Darmontre Warr. A lot of people had Wales pegged as the sure-fire #2 coming into the fall, but Warr has put together a nice fall and had a very productive scrimmage last Saturday. We'll see who will stand out and maybe claim that #2 role in the backfield behind Leon Allen.

Ge' & D
Ge'Monee Brown and D'Von Isaac are both having great fall camps so far and are making a case to claim the starting tackle slots along the defensive front line. Both put together impressive performances last Saturday, using their size and strength to penetrate the line of scrimmage and make tackles in the backfield and be a disruptive force.

LB Rotation
The most talked about position in terms of talent lost coming into the fall could actually turn out to be one of the strongest pieces of the defensive puzzle in 2014 when you consider the play of Dejon Brown and Nick Holt. Both are great compliments to the leadership of senior Chill Williams, with Holt's knowledge of the defense and ability to time his blitzes with precision and Brown's ability to use his size and speed to be a playmaker all around the field and in coverage as well.
