2023 offensive guard and offensive tackle Grayson Brashear, a rising senior and in-state star at South Oldham High School in Crestwood, KY., picked up an offer from Western Kentucky on Thursday, June 16.

Brashear announced that he had received an offer from the Hilltoppers over social media on Thursday afternoon.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive guard is an unranked 2023 prospect on Rivals.com and has collected several offers over the course of his recruitment journey.

In addition to the offer from Western Kentucky, Brashear has collected offers from Austin Peay, Army, Dartmouth, Eastern Kentucky and Murray State.

Brashear spoke with InsideHilltopperSports.com about how it felt to pick up the offer from Western Kentucky and revealed what he knows about the Hilltoppers at this point in his recruitment.

"It feels great to land an offer from a school with such a high octane offense," Brashear said. "I know that they like to throw the ball around, but they’re sneaky good with the run game too."

Brashear said that being offered by in-state schools is huge for him and does play a significant role in the recruitment process for him. He also said that a lot of his friends and former teammates have ended up at Western Kentucky.

"As in state guy, it means a lot to be offered by WKU. A lot of my friends and former teammates go there now so it’s really an extension of home," Brashear said.

Brashear said that he was recently at Western Kentucky's offensive line/defensive line camp and that was how Western Kentucky became aware of him and ultimately resulted in him getting offered.

"I was at the OL/DL camp today," Brashear said. "The campus was beautiful and it has a great college town feel to it."

Brashear said that during Thursday's camp, WKU head coach Tyson Helton pulled him into his office and offered him. He said that for most of the camp, he was working with WKU assistant coach, co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Zach Lankford and director of player personnel John Kuceyeski.

"Coach Helton brought me into his office and offered me," Brashear said. "I liked how he’s super down-to-earth and we were able to relate on a lot of things. I spent most of the camp with Coach Lankford and Coach Kuceyeski and I loved their energy and passion for the offensive line."

Brashear said that he is very eager to return to Western Kentucky soon. He said he hasn't decided on an exact date for a visit yet.

"I can’t wait to come back," Brashear said. "The coaches were awesome to be around and from what I saw, the facilities are top tier. ...

"The camp was huge in my recruitment," Brashear said. "Coach Helton said he saw me in the drills and was like, “who is that guy?" Without the camp, I definitely wouldn’t have gotten an offer from them. It really means a lot to get the offer from them, because it shows that my hard work isn’t going to waste."

Brashear additionally talked about playing for South Oldham High School and revealed how that has played a role in his recruitment as well as his development. He said his coaches have helped him in the recruitment process.

"My coaches have really transformed into the player I am today," Breashear said. "I came into high school as a big guy, a little soft, and they instilled toughness and technique in me."
