As I mentioned in the video with Jamarcus Shephard on the front page, it was a spirited effort at practice today as the Hilltoppers went full pads for the first time this spring. Here are some notes:

- First off, regarding the wide receiver trio of Jared Dangerfield, Antwane Grant, and Nicholas Norris - all three were back at practice after setting out Thursday's session due to missing a mandatory study hall session last week. Running back Leon Allen was in the same boat as the other three, however, Allen missed his second straight practice due to not meeting team obligations.

- DeAndre Farris has made the move from wide receiver to safety and is now wearing #42 in practice for now.

- Prince Charles Iworah was really wound-up at practice today jawing with the wide receivers during 1-on-1's and 11-on-11's. Drawing the ire of wide receivers on a few occasions, who either threw the ball back at Iworah after the play was over or got back up and jawed with him as well. Very feisty!

- With pads on, the physicality was turned up by about 10 notches and early on the defensive backs were making a statement with their aggressiveness during 1-on-1's. Martavius Mims stood out during this aspect of practice.

- As 11-on-11's started, redshirt sophomore defensive lineman stuffed Anthony "Ace" Wales behind the line of scrimmage and with Allen out of practice, the defense had the upper hand in run defense throughout the day.

- Senior linebacker Nick Holt was solid on Monday, at one point jumping the line of scrimmage and creating a fumble in the backfield. Drew Davis also stood out at linebacker by showing off his sideline-to-sideline capabilities in making tackles all over the field.

- While redshirt freshman quarterback Drew Eckels looked rough last Tuesday, he looked very sharp today, making only one ill-advised throw into coverage that I witnessed. While I think Fishback has a strong hold on the backup quarterback position, if Eckels keeps the progression up, he could make a run for the backup spot.
