Lots of shakin' and bakin' in the WKU sports world on Thursday, so let's get this party started...
- In the ongoing saga of preseason award watch lists, the Hilltoppers keep racking up the accolades with running back Leon Allen being named to the prestigious Doak Walker Award list on Thursday. Allen will be the lead shaker and baker out of the backfield this season with the graduation of "Mr. Everything" Antonio Andrews, so expect those 370 yards and 5 touchdowns he tallied last season to expand like an early morning breakfast biscuit made my Grandma.
- Western Kentucky also added another member to their football team in former Alabama quarterback Parker McLeod. While some will be extremely elated at this news, the 6-foot-4, 195-pound signal caller has yet to prove himself in college only attempting one pass in a spring game. McLeod donned a redshirt his freshman year and did not see any action last season.
The Walton (Ga) product was a three-star prospect that also held offers from Boston College, East Carolina, Louisville, Maryland, Oklahoma State, Syracuse, and UCF. He boasted great numbers during his junior season of high school, leading his team to a 14-1 record while slingin' it for 1,619 yards and 18 touchdowns. He tallied 541 yards and four touchdowns during an injury-shortened senior season where he also made it to the finals of Nike's Elite 11 tournament.
McLeod slingin' it
McLeod will join the team at the start of fall camp and will sit out the upcoming season per NCAA transfer rules. The Hilltoppers are now rolling six-deep at the quarterback position as they head into the upcoming season. The position will definitely be interesting to monitor moving forward...meaning, after this season.
- Looks like the WKU hoops squad is keeping their binoculars locked into the former Kolbe Cathedral hooper throwing it down, he can definitely finish! (He's the second slam on the video)
- In football recruiting news, WKU has extended an offer to Miller McCoy (La) defensive lineman Brian Webb. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound prospect just recently decommitted from Tulane earlier in the week and re-opened his recruiting process. Webb also holds offers from Louisiana Tech, Lafayette, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, South Alabama, and UCF. The Hilltoppers have done a good job of dipping into the Bayou talent pool, having offered a handful of talented Louisiana prospects for this 2015 class.
Check Webb out in action here
Oh yeah, don't forget kids. The Big Ten Network will air the September 6th matchup at Illinois where the action will begin at 11 a.m. (CST), get your coffee and Red Bulls ready.
I'm out....
