Here is a synopsis of what WKU head coach Tyson Helton said during Monday's press conference ahead of Saturday's road game against FIU:
- Looking forward to FIU this week. Had practice on Sunday and said the players responded well after Thursday's loss.
- Says players have had a positive demeanor since Thursday.
- He was pleased offensively with close to 500 yards of offense, but said they left a lot of plays on the field.
- Felt like they left out a lot on offense. Felt like they positioned themselves well in the fourth quarter but wasn't able to get the win.
- Said defensively five plays killed them, big explosive plays. Otherwise, he was pleased with the overall effort.
- Noted Josh Simon did what he expected him to do.
- Noted they were close to 50/50 in play calling run and pass.
- Says they need to control the line of scrimmage against Tulane.
- Thought there was a lot of balance offensively between wide receivers, tight ends, running backs.
- Says he plans to take advantage of opportunities with quarterback runs without leaning towards being a QB run team.
- Noted he would like to get Ty Storey involved in the game against FIU.
- Still running back by committee - says Walker and McClendon will get a majority of the carries with guys like Samuel and others also getting involved.
- Reiterated that the most disappointing part of Central Arkansas game was giving up big, explosive plays and not being able to find the endzone enough on offense.
- On rotation at LT, said Cole Spencer is healthy but didn't want to put too much pressure on him coming off a knee injury.
- Praised DeAngelo Malone on his performance against Central Arkansas and his energy level.
