what did the players do

Matt Jones said it was going to be bad, looks like the feds are involved so it could be point shaving and this could shut down the program, lets all hope this is not what happened.

wow! is this just hearsay or is there some definite truth to it? I listen to KSR everyday and heard what Jones said this morning but as a Western alum I want to know more about what's going on.

The point shaving rumor is just hearsay

I promise you guys it has nothing to do with point shaving in any way. The university will not be in any trouble over the incident that occurred. The players did nothing illegal at all. Just something that violated university policy. Their suspensions were for that. If they had done something very bad they would not still be on campus taking classes.

I cannot tell you guys exactly what happened because of confidentiality reasons. Just support the players as they try to move through this.

They left a possibility open though:

"I think that's how we have to approach it," Stewart said. "I think to approach it any other way - in anything in life, you have to prepare for the worst. That's what we're doing, and I think that's what he meant by that."

That is crap. They use the kids to get rid of the coach and then the Ad retreats from the they are gone comment. Here is the standard, 89 wins, 2 NCAA appearances and 14 and 3 in conference tournament play in 4 years. Coach even stated that you can't control players behavior 24-7.

I'm ready for a new season with a new coach. 400$ per seat(approximately) and we went to 1/2 of the home games because it was a pathetic season.

I wouldn't say they used the kids to get rid of the coach. It was just the straw that broke the camels back. You are right in that you can't control what players do 24/7. But everyone can admit there have been a lot more incidents under Harper then in the past. Pressure from fans and boosters was pretty big on the administration.

Schools that are not top-of-the-Power5-league that go after the "quick fix" are foolish. They wind up with one good team and a coach resignation every 3-5, and never get the PROGRAM they want. Quick fix never sustains.

And schools that fire coaches with winning records often pay a stiff price.

Just as Harper was getting his Sun Belt program ready to go, Western moved to CUSA. That was a good thing, but Western lost patience.

Stansbury said immediately what anti-Harper folks would not accept - that was a big jump. It requires upgraded talent.

And just as Harper got a CUSA team ready to go, this Mystery Matter comes along. Something not quite so bad that students get expelled, only suspended from basketball just as a season ends (or was it a suspension from classes too? Anybody know? Anybody ask? If they want can they take thier finals? Try and pass? Or is this guaranteed Incomplete? Guaranteed F? Guaranteed APR issue?) but just bad enough that the Coach must resign and keep his mouth shut.

Questions that get asked at every other school are not getting asked here, because 89 in 4.5 is not enough. Turnover elsewhere is ignored - turnover here is bad under Harper. Stansbury says "transfers, juco and 5th year guys are all over now." Not a negative peep.

Mark these words - The same folks dissatisfied with Harper will be anti-Stansbury in less than 2 seasons, and demanding Western reject mediocrity and dump him in year 3.

The slow build to 10 years of domination has been dumped for the Stepping Stone System again.

JMO.

Yes we have asked all the questions needed. However, there comes a time sometimes when you have to weigh reporting what you heard or in this case not reporting it for all the parties involved sake. We are not going to alienate ourselves from the university and team for reporting something they can't talk about. Nor is any other media organization that covers WKU.

To answer some of your questions. Yes the players were only suspended from basketball activities and not from their classes. Yes they can still take their finals. Don't rule out McNeal or Hunter coming back just yet as that is still somewhat up in the air. Fred Ed has already signed a pro contract overseas so he is gone.

Coach Harper is required to keep his mouth shut by federal law as is the university. UDC meetings and rulings are not made public knowledge. Though a lot of people know what happened.
