Schools that are not top-of-the-Power5-league that go after the "quick fix" are foolish. They wind up with one good team and a coach resignation every 3-5, and never get the PROGRAM they want. Quick fix never sustains.
And schools that fire coaches with winning records often pay a stiff price.
Just as Harper was getting his Sun Belt program ready to go, Western moved to CUSA. That was a good thing, but Western lost patience.
Stansbury said immediately what anti-Harper folks would not accept - that was a big jump. It requires upgraded talent.
And just as Harper got a CUSA team ready to go, this Mystery Matter comes along. Something not quite so bad that students get expelled, only suspended from basketball just as a season ends (or was it a suspension from classes too? Anybody know? Anybody ask? If they want can they take thier finals? Try and pass? Or is this guaranteed Incomplete? Guaranteed F? Guaranteed APR issue?) but just bad enough that the Coach must resign and keep his mouth shut.
Questions that get asked at every other school are not getting asked here, because 89 in 4.5 is not enough. Turnover elsewhere is ignored - turnover here is bad under Harper. Stansbury says "transfers, juco and 5th year guys are all over now." Not a negative peep.
Mark these words - The same folks dissatisfied with Harper will be anti-Stansbury in less than 2 seasons, and demanding Western reject mediocrity and dump him in year 3.
The slow build to 10 years of domination has been dumped for the Stepping Stone System again.
