The Tops did it. 6-0 in CUSA play and now in sole possession of the #1 spot (LA Tech lost tonight). What a game in Diddle! I feel bad for you if you weren't in Diddle for that game (should of listened to my previous post ☺) I've had some time to digest the win, here's a few thoughts.
Super cool to see C-Lee back in Diddle. To see a guy I watched grow for 4 years into a Hilltopper legend and come back to see his jersey retired was very special. Ben was a HUGE reason WKU won that game. Ben stepped up big time for the Tops. We've seen some flashes of what Ben could do throughout the season so far, and he came through for the Tops tonight. 10 points, 2 crucial free throws, a block, 5 rebounds, and a couple of assists for the big man tonight. CHD. The guy played all 45 minutes. UTEP was all over him all night long, but what a clutch ending for the sophomore PG. He hit a couple of huge shots for the Tops down the stretch. Dude could miss 17 shots straight, but still shoot confidently he was going to make the next one. That's the mentality a shooter has got to have. The Freshman: We continue to see bits and pieces of what DJ and Justin can do for WKU. Although neither shined per say against UTEP, they both did some solid things (not necessarily on the stat sheet) to contribute to the teams win. There's gonna be freshman mistakes that's inevitable, but watching them grow over the next 4 years will be fun. The future is bright. The heart of this team is amazing. They keep finding a way to win ball games. They don't quit whether they're down 10 or up 10. They're out there having fun and playing for each other. As the commercials keep telling me, Every. Game. Matters.I'm very proud of how the Tops pulled another win out tonight. I was honestly a bit worried as the game started. I didn't think it was a great matchup once I saw how their big guys were pounding us, but once again I learned to never doubt a Ray Harper team. Dude can flat out coach. Ready for Saturday against UTSA! Hopefully no letdowns and the Tops can move to 7-0.
