Losing is no fun regardless. Losing to a rival like MTSU is heartbreaking. Tops have dropped 4 straight including today's loss at MTSU and the word that continues to come to my mind: Consistency.
Tops got away some with not playing a whole game during their winning streak. They're not getting away with it anymore. The Tops have got to put together a full 40 minutes of tough basketball. There's moments of greatness and there are moments that take me back to the first month of the season (which I don't want to think about).
I'm trying to remain optimistic from the flashes of greatness, but the Tops (to state the obvious) have got to change something going forward. Here's a few thoughts on today's game and going forward.
1. CHD. He was taken out of the starting lineup the last 2 games, which I had hoped to be a wake up call for him. I haven't seen it yet. CHD has some of what look like the most ridiculous turnovers. I don't pretend to be a basketball genius. I'm just a fan of the game, but I don't understand how some of these dumb turnovers continue to happen. Yes, I know that turnovers are going to happen, but I hate the unforced ones. I don't want to say CHD isn't focused or to blame it on one specific thing because I don't know, but I know he's fully capable of doing a better job than he has the last stretch of games.
2. DJ continues to give me hope for the future. Yes, I know his stats aren't flashy right now. Yes, I know he's missing most his shots currently. It's his ability to get those shots that makes me excited. He's getting open for shots that WKU hasn't had anyone that can do in a few years. I love his speed and athletic ability. Even though it can be frustrating not seeing those go down, eventually they will and I can't wait for it.
3. Seniors, your time is now. You have just a few regular season games left and it's off to the conference tournament. It's time to take over this team and get the work done. The team knows what to do. A month ago the team was on a long winning streak and everything was going great. Now there's some adversity and it's time to react and overcome it. It's time to push down the door and live up to the potential of this team. It's now or never. (And that's my motivational talk for the day)
Tops have 2 (hopeful) confidence boosters coming up this week. FAU on Thursday and FIU on Saturday. As we know, no conference game is easy, so the Tops will have to show up and play a FULL game. I hope the Tops can gain some momentum
Also, please come out and support the Tops, especially for senior night. TJ and George have been through the lowest of lows and some pretty amazing highs the past 4 years. They lived through the Kmac days and Harper Mania. They've both done so much for this basketball team and they deserve a good send off. Trency has only been playing for the Tops for 1.5 years, but has brought a ton of excitement to games with his passion on the court. WKU wouldn't be the same team without him. They all 3 deserve a good crowd on Saturday, so Hilltopper Nation let's do it!
