ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – For the third straight season, No. 25 WKU will have two players play in the East-West Shrine Game as quarterback Brandon Doughty and wide receiver Jared Dangerfield accepted their invitations to play in one of the nation’s oldest all-star games on Jan. 23, 2016 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The duo will follow Cameron Clemmons and Cam Thomas from last season and Xavius Boyd and Andrew Jackson in 2014 as the Hilltopper participants. Bobby Rainey (2012) was the other representative from The Hill to participate in the contest.

The 91st edition of the premier all-star game will be shown live from Tropicana Field on NFL Network at 3 p.m. CT, while fans can also listen to the online radio broadcast at ShrineGame.com. An invitation to take part in the annual East-West Shrine Game is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the best collegiate football all-stars in the country to showcase their talents in front of top representatives from NFL teams.

Following his record-setting year last campaign, Doughty has continued to tear up the record books in 2015, becoming No. 25 WKU's all-time leader for career passing yards (12,394), completions (991) and attempts (1,447). He currently ranks 24th in FBS history in career yards and 16th in touchdowns, passing greats like Andrew Luck, Dan Marino Peyton Manning and Doug Flutie in those marks along the way. This season, Doughty leads the FBS this season in completion percentage (71.8), touchdowns (45) and points responsible for (286), while also becoming the first player in Conference USA history to be named the league’s Most Valuable Player for consecutive seasons.

Dangerfield has been a consistent threat in the Hilltoppers’ passing attack that ranks sixth in the FBS, earning All-C-USA Honorable Mention accolades. He became the first player in school history to post multiple seasons of 60-plus receptions as he bettered his 69 from last season with 76 in 2015, racking up 752 yards and seven touchdowns along the way.

The duo will return to action in South Beach on Dec. 21 for the Miami Beach Bowl against South Florida, which is slated for a 1:30 p.m. CT kick on ESPN from Marlins Park.
