2023 outside linebacker and tight end Lofton Howard, a local talent out of Greenwood High School, with family connections to the Hilltoppers, picked up an offer from Western Kentucky on June 19.

The 6-foot-5, 210-pound recruit is the son of Greenwood head coach and former Hilltopper William Howard, and brother of current WKU Volleyball outside hitter Katie Howard.

Howard announced that he had received an offer from the Hilltoppers over social media on Sunday afternoon.

Howard spoke with InsideHilltopperSports.com about how it felt to receive an offer from Western Kentucky and revealed how important this opportunity is considering his family connections to the program.

"It’s exciting to get an offer from the school my dad used to play at, and where my sister currently goes," Howard said. "I’ve been going to WKU games since I was a little kid and It’s been fun having a team so close to home to always watch."

Howard said he's been involved in going to camps since the ninth grade, which includes Western Kentucky, but this year, they started to really notice him.

"I've been going to camps since I was in the ninth grade," Howard said. "WKU has always been there, but this summer, the recruitment has really picked up."

Howard said that he connected with WKU assistant head coach, special teams coordinator and tight ends coach Andy LaRussa and offensive assistant Coach Casarahi, who were both involved with him during both this year's camp, as well as his visit to campus.

"At the camp this year, I talked to Coach Casarahi and Coach LaRussa," Howard said. "And I got to hangout with them on my visit, which was when I got my offer. I really liked how interested they seemed in getting to know me and my family. I think the conversation went well and my family and I learned a lot about how it would work if I went there."

Howard said receiving an offer from Western Kentucky is huge for his recruitment because it's providing him with the opportunity to stay close to home.

"I think the offer is very meaningful and gives me the opportunity to be close to home," Howard said. "I still have my senior season, so we'll have to see how things play out in the rest of my recruiting."

The in-state prospect also talked about how his father, William Howard, the head football coach at Greenwood, has played a role in his developement and recruiting process.

"With my dad also being my head football coach, he has played a large role in my development, and has helped me during my recruitment," Howard said.
