Narveson named C-USA Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year

Western Kentucky was recognized for another preseason award on Tuesday afternoon as kicker Brayden Narveson was named the Conference USA Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year.

The preseason player of the year awards were determined by the league's 11 coaches. Narveson is joined by UTSA's Frank Harris, who won C-USA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Rashad Wisdom, who won C-USA's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.



Narveson will be kicking off the 2022 season with Western Kentucky as one of the more dynamic kickers in all of college football. The redshirt junior managed to make 23-of-29 field goal attempts in the 2021 campaign and hit a 53-yard attempt in the Hilltoppers' victory over rival Marshall in the C-USA East Division title game. Narveson was also flawless on all his PAT attempts thropughout the season, recording 72-of-72.

Just a season ago, Narveson scored 141 points, which was the most of any kicker in the country. That number was also second-best among all players regardless of position. His mark of 10.1 points per game was also sixth-best in the country. He also finished 13th in the country in field goals per game. Narveson's 23 makes tied him for the most in a season in program history. Narveson is entering the season as one of the best kickers with a clip of 83.7 percent.

Narveson's recognition as C-USA's Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year marks the third straight year a Hilltopper has been named a preseason player of the year. Former defensive end DeAngelo Malone won C-USA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in 2020 and 2021 while former punter John Haggerty III also won the preseason special teams player of the year award in 2020.
