Scoreboards in Conference USA

After watching this video (see link) of the world's largest scoreboard, I was curious to know how WKU's stadium scoreboard compares to other stadium scoreboards in Conference USA. The scoreboard at Everbank Field in Jacksonville is 60 ft. by 362 feet and cost $63 million. From researching college stadium scoreboards, it appears Marshall has the largest video board (49'x27.5') and Middle Tennessee has the smallest (29'x17'). Western has the second smallest video board in the conference that measures (31.5'x18')'. For a list of all college scoreboards see my next post.

Obviously, the size of the scoreboard should be proportional to the size of the stadium. It's not surprising that most of the largest video boards are found in the largest stadiums. Mississippi State's video board is an exception to that. MSU's high definition video board is currently the second largest video board in the SEC and the seventh largest on-campus video board in the nation. Yet, Davis Wade Stadium has a capacity of 61,337.

Kent State has the second largest video board in the MAC and only has a capacity of 25,319 after the 2008 renovations. For a stadium the size of Dix, I believe KSU's video board is plenty large enough. That said, in the event that WKU increases the capacity of Houchens Industries-L.T.Smith Stadium, a larger video scoreboard probably would be more appropriate than what it has now.
