After the weather scratched the last two practice attempts on Friday and Monday afternoon, the Hilltoppers were finally able to get a practice in on Tuesday evening without any worries from mother nature. Here are a few notes:

- With a scrimmage scheduled for last Friday, the Hilltoppers spent a majority of the day working on live game situations with the offense going one-on-one against the defense. Kind of a pseudo-scrimmage if you will with periods of live tackling mixed into the fray about halfway through.

- UAB linebacker transfer T.J. McCollum looked really sharp, breaking into the backfield on three separate occasions and creating a tackle for loss on the running backs. Bryan Shorter caused havoc in the backfield a couple of times as well and also tipped a screen pass attempt by Brandon Doughty rushing off the edge. Local product Joel Iyiegbuniwe racked up a couple of nice defensive stops in the running game and at one point broke free on a blitz that would have been ruled a sack.

- Leon Allen continues to participate more and more each practice, getting some action during the live portion of practice but the trio of Warr, Wales, and Trigg got the bulk of the action. Speaking of Wales, he was able to break off a couple of nice runs midway through the session, showing off his change-of-direction and burst abilities.

- As predicted, Brandon Doughty was sharp throughout the day. He made a couple of mistakes, one being an interception by Wonderful Terry on a play where both wide receivers were confused on routes and ended up nowhere near the football, therefore, creating an easy play for the Hilltoppers' top defensive playmaker to make. Doughty was pinpoint with the offense set up close to the redzone, hitting Jared Dangerfield for two touchdown catches and throwing a strike to Nacarius Fant down the middle of the field for another score.

- I already mentioned Dangerfield above, who flexed his muscles throughout practice by hauling in a total of three touchdown passes. Taywan Taylor added another when Doughty hit him in stride down the sideline for a deep bomb. Nacarius Fant was surprisingly off today, dropping a couple passes on back-to-back plays that forced head coach Jeff Brohm to halt practice and make the entire receiving corps run sprints before taking a water break. As mentioned above, Fant would later redeem himself later in practice and haul in a TD pass.

We'll have interviews coming up with the aforementioned Nacarius Fant and Brandon Doughty, so stay tuned...
