A few notes to pass along as Western Kentucky had their second scrimmage of the spring on Saturday morning.

- A lot of the younger wide receivers and running backs got a bulk of the reps during the scrimmage. Marquez Trigg got about three-times more carries than the other running backs on the day. Coach Brohm mentioned that's a product of keeping both Ferby and Wales healthy and putting more responsibility on Trigg's back who will likely be in a support role behind Ferby in Wales in the fall.

- Speaking of Trigg, I was impressed with his performance overall. He had some solid gains throughout the day and has a real shiftiness and physicality to his game. Like Ferby, he's not shy about contact and will lower his shoulders and dish out his own punishment to cap off his runs.

- Early in the scrimmage the defense was able to get some major push from the line up front that swallowed up Trigg in the backfield. Omarius Bryant and Chris Johnson were notable disrupters along the defensive line.

- After today's session, Louisville LB transfer Keith Brown said that he's picking up the defensive scheme quickly and noted T.J. McCollum, Joe Brown, Omarius Bryant, and Nick Dawson-Bents were some of the defensive playmakers that were standing out to him this spring.

- Overall, the quarterbacks had a good day. Head coach Jeff Brohm noted they showed a lot more consistency throughout. Fishback started off with the first-team offensive line on the day. Mike White was the signal-caller on two touchdown drives early on, he also got picked off on a sideline route by Leverick Johnson. Tyler Ferguson made a great corner endzone throw to Nicholas Norris, who made an even better touchdown catch between two defenders. Drew Eckels put together some nice drives as well, he connected with redshirt freshman receiver Quin Jernighan for a 6-yard touchdown pass.

My quarterback impressions for today's scrimmage: on overall performance I'd give the nod to Mike White despite the interception, but only by a small margin.

- Shaq Johnson made some really good catches at the tight end position today. He did a lot of his damage in the middle of the field and appears to be developing into a the go-to option at that position. I was also impressed with the play of Wesley Vollmer, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound reshirt freshman out of Calvary Christian (Fla.) at the tight end spot as well. Like Johnson, Vollmer is a big target with good hands and solid blocking ability as well. Deon Yelder is another player that could emerge as a playmaker at tight end, just needs to be more consistent.

- Brohm noted that freshman running back Quinton Baker will be out the rest of the spring due to injury. He noted that Baker was making tremendous progress during the spring.

- After the scrimmage, Marquez Trigg noted that he's learned a lot from Wales, Ferby, and Leon Allen as well. He noted that Wales and Ferby help him out a lot with pass protection and little things about the running back position.
