Texas A&M Corpus Christi guard Trey Tennyson, one of the top players on the Islanders' roster last season under Steve Lutz, entered the transfer portal less than 24 hours ago. Tennyson spoke with InsideHilltopperSports.com about his interest in reuniting with his head coach at Western Kentucky.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound transfer out of Arlington, TX. said it'd be great to continue to compete for Lutz, especially for a program like Western Kentucky.

While he's also considering other programs as well, Tennyson told me that he has connected with Lutz since entering his name into the transfer portal.

"Yes, I talked with him," Tennyson said. "It'd be great to continue playing for him and join a great program like WKU, but I'm just considering all my options right now."

Tennyson said that what would make him such a solid addition to the Hilltoppers' roster is the fact that he's a winner and when he's on the court, he competes. Tennyson said that Lutz is a great head coach from both an offensive and defensive standpoint. Tennyson said Lutz challenges his players to work on their weaknesses and turn them into strengths. He added that Coach Lutz cares about toughness and competing to get better each and every day.

"He's a great coach, an offensive and defensive mastermind," Tennyson said. "And he challenges you by making you work on your weaknesses and turn them into strengths. He values toughness and competing, so that gets you better every day if you show up every day and do those."

While he doesn't have any visits planned at the moment, Tennyson said that he's definitely interested in visiting Western Kentucky and is waiting on the Hilltoppers to get things set up.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pound senior guard averaged 13.9 points per game, 2.0 rebounds per game, 1.3 assists per game, 0.1 blocks per game and 0.7 steals per game. Tennyson shot 41.8% from the field, 38.7% from beyond the arc and 86.2% from the free throw line.
